RAJIV GANDHI SHRAMIK KALYAN YOJNA
The ESI Corporation launched new scheme called Rajiv Gandhi Shramik Kalyan Yojna with effect from April 1, 2005. This scheme provides for unemployment allowance for the employees covered under ESI Scheme who are rendered unemployed involuntarily due to closure of the factory/ retrenchment / permanent invalidity arising out of non-employment injury.  Under this scheme, the eligible workers are entitled to a daily rate of allowance and medical care for self and family during the period of unemployment up to a maximum of one year during their entire service. The allowances can be availed of in one spell or in different spells of not less than one month
Employment eligibility conditions:-
The insured person should have contributed under the ESI Scheme for a minimum period of three years prior to loss of employment.
          Unemployment allowance shall cease to be payable  from the date the insured person gets re-employed elsewhere.

Rate of unemployment allowance:
The daily rate of unemployment allowance shall be the “ standard benefit rate” as specified in the table of Standard Benefit Rates under Rule-54 of ESI ( Central) Rules 150, corresponding to the average daily wage drawn by the said insured person during the last four completed contribution periods, immediately preceding the date of unemployment
Procedure:  

The allowance shall be payable in the form of monthly payments by Branch Offices of ESI Corporation where the employee was registered on submission of a claim in prescribed form duly supplied by  relevant documents after approval of the Regional / Sub Regional Office.
